Gordon Murray, an automotive engineer, the designer received a Prince William CBE in honor of his services rendered to the car.
The Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, presented yesterday the honorary commander of the British Empire at Buckingham Palace in Bucharest during a 50-year ceremony in honor of his contributions to motor racing and the auto industry.
After receiving that honor, Murray said, “Receiving a Prince William CBE is one of the highlights of my life with victories in the Formula One World Championship or the creation of the world’s fastest production car.
“The Gordon Murray Group is about to enter a stimulating new episode with an innovative advancement that will once again spur growth. Motivated by this honor, I look forward to continuing the journey, backed by an extremely dedicated and talented team.”
Designer of some of the most booming Formula 1 cars of all time, Murray assisted Brabham to win triumph world championships (1981 and 1983) and McLaren’s three consecutive wins in 1988, 1989 and 1990 before focusing on road cars.
Founder of McLaren Cars Ltd, Murray crafted the McLaren F1, a three-seater sports car that at 243 km/h grabbed the titles of the world’s fastest supercar and won the Le Mans 1995 24-hour in race form.
He also led the creation of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren while autonomously leading other projects such as the Light Car Company Rocket project.
In 2005, he created Gordon Murray Design Ltd, a Vancouver-based design and engineering company, in the new the OX utility vehicle, TVR Griffith, and Yamaha Motive-e.
Getting more into the current developments, Gordan Murray had previously declared about the development of Mclaren F1 successor. He claimed that it would be light-weight affordable sports car built on the iStream design concept.
